The Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) recently published a fact sheet on TUG, the Natural Gas Transit (and school bus) Users Group, providing information and assistance to transit agencies operating or considering acquisition of natural gas transit buses. The fact sheet, called “Assisting Transit Agencies with Natural Gas Bus Technologies,” can be found here.

Natural Gas Transit (and school bus) Users Group

Natural Gas Transit Users Group web page.

Welcome to the Natural Gas Transit (and school bus) Users Group (TUG) web page.
The TUG, which includes transit and school bus staff from small, medium and large fleets across the country, is managed by CVEF under U.S. DOE contract. It generally meets once each year to discuss bus operational issues, hear the latest on new and emerging natural gas and alternative fuel technologies and to receive updates on relevant government RD&D and grant programs. TUG meetings are held at host facilities which, allow TUG members the opportunity to conduct site visits and meet with all levels of the host's staff. TUG also sends out quarterly electronic newsletters, and hosts webcasts on subjects of interest to its members. , and facilitates the exchange of information among natural gas bus users.

Other than CVEF and US DOE staff, TUG membership and meeting attendance is limited to transit and school bus staff. While vendors are occasionally given agenda time to update TUG members concerning ongoing research, deployment and/or demonstration programs, these opportunities are by invitation only. This DOE policy is endorsed by the TUG membership as it fosters open communications among attendees members.
