The 2007 National NGV Conference-Summit held in Reno, Nevada, was attended by 115 NGV industry leaders, policy-makers, advocate-allies, customers and media representatives who strategized on how to amplify the NGV message and maximize potential for greater deployment given the very positive market indicators, including:
  • Public awareness of the national security and economic implications of our reliance on oil is higher than ever before.
  • State and local governments are proactively addressing air quality by adopting more stringent vehicle emissions and fuel carbon content standards.
  • The cost differential between natural gas and diesel and gasoline, which is already favorable, continues to grow as world competition for oil escalates.
  • New federal tax credits for natural gas vehicles, stations and fuel are reducing the payback period, and further improve NGV life-cycle savings.
  • More heavy-duty OEMs are offering factory-built NGVs than ever before.
  • Vehicular natural gas use is up – surpassing 200 million GGEs in 2005 and well on the way to 300 million GGEs by year-end 2008.

The National NGV Conference-Summit was timed to precede WasteCon (October 16-18) at the adjacent Reno/Sparks Convention Center, where NGVAmerica coordinated a 2500 square-foot NGV Zone featuring fifteen different vehicle, equipment and service suppliers. WasteCon is an annual event hosted by the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), which represents the nation's municipal refuse/recycling/landfill management executives and their suppliers. WasteCon fleet operator attendees joined NGVAmerica Conference-Summit attendees at the Sunday evening reception at the National Automotive Museum. In addition, NGVAmerica hosted a pre-con NGV seminar and an NGV fleet operators panel at WasteCon.
